Caecilia's schatten
“Caecilia's Schatten" (Caecilia’s treasures) is a journey into the rich and rarely explored world of Dutch vocal chamber music.
This project was born from one of our members' desire to research music from the Netherlands for a surprise concert for his father, who was born in The Hague. During our exploration, however, we realized the absolute value of these compositions, most of which were written by forgotten composers. We therefore decided to pay tribute to them with concerts “open to the public.”
In about thirty minutes, we offer the rediscovery of refined songs written between 1870 and 1950, in perfect balance between the musical influences of neighboring European countries and the search for a national voice. In a Europe dominated by the fame of Wagner, Mahler, and the emerging French school, the music of composers such as von Brucken Fock, Brandt Buys, Voormolen, Röntgen, and Martin displays distinct personalities and innovation.
Remembering these musicians is not only a way for us to pay tribute to our roots, but also to bear witness to the cultural evolution of a country as sensitive to change and avant-garde as the Netherlands.
